Mozilla or Internet Explorer?

It’s already been two days since I worked as a web developer of a certain company. My boss said that our clients are so meticulous and so browser compatibility is one of our concerns. I have encountered several problems during the first days of my work particularly on IE and Mozilla compatibility.

List Style Image <style type="text/css"> ol { margin:0px 10px 0px 20px; padding:0px 0px 0px 9px; } li { list-style-image:url(images/raquo.gif); list-style-type:circle; padding-top:10px; padding-bottom:20px; } </style>

and this HTML <div> <ol> <li>Lorem ipsum dolor </li> <li>Lorem ipsum dolor </li> <li>Lorem ipsum dolor </li> </ol> </div>

The problem of that above code is that the list-style (raquo image) was displayed incorrectly in IE. It was not inline with the text however if I only use list style type there’s no problem. What I did above to get it work for both browsers was delete the padding-top:10px and transfer this style to the div<> in the HTML part.

Dashed Border You may have a table with alternating row colors, i.e. blue and green, with white body background. Then you want to put a white dashed border in each row (<td>). In Mozilla, this works perfectly however, in IE, you will just see a solid white border. The reason for this is that IE put also a white background for the dashed border that’s why it will become solid in your visibility. Try to use another dashed border color and you will actually see it.

Transitional and Strict Other thing I was get stuck with is the Transitional and Strict XHTML. I was making a page in XHTML Transitional and at the very end when I nearly finished it, I suddenly changed it to Strict. Both all works in IE, amazingly XHTML Strict did not display correctly in Mozilla. The problem is after every table row (<tr>), about 2px solid line was added below it destroying my layout. Any ideas about this one?

Today is my last day at Lexmark Research and Development Corporation being a Project Lead of ECST. I did write a thank you letter for my superiors and an encouragement email to one of my subordinates. He is a DTS (Dual Training System) trainee from the Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise, the school where I finished my 3-year Information Technology course. The content of my email was mainly the steps of how to be a successful webmaster someday and on how to customize the database program (using PHP and MySQL) I made for our department. It’s not completely finished (I think 25%) because it’s only the inventory part. Well, I advised him to learn (X)HTML first, CSS, JavaScript, and finally on PHP and MySQL. I recommend him to use http://www.w3schools.com for that must-learn thing before PHP. For the PHP part, I give him these sites: http://www.phpfreaks.com http://www.phpbuilder.com http://www.phphelp.com http://www.phphub.com http://www.phpnoise.com http://www.triphp.com/snippets.php http://www.phpriot.com/ http://www.phpnerds.com/ http://www.phpworld.com/ http://www.phpscriptschool.com/ http://www.php-forum.com/ http://www.php-csl.com/snippets/ http://www.php-editors.com/ This is the last message of my email for my DTS trainee: <?php $farewell_string = "HAPPY CODING... THE ANSWER IS IN THE MANUAL!!!"; echo $farewell_string; ?>

Still continue to write contents on my internet income resource resource page http://income.triphp.com/. It’s not easy to think and to write at the same time. Is this how dificult an article writer is? I also install new modules and components for future use. Ooops forgot to tell you. That underconstruction site is powered by Mambo CMS. I was also able to add Google Adsense in my content using the Adsense mambots and also the module. AdSense Mambot and Module can be downloaded at http://www.mamboforge.net/. The author of Adsense Mambot I am using is Christian Meichtry while for the Module is Myles Grant. Well, thanks to you guys for your apps. AdSense Mambot usage is very simple. Just enter this in your content {mosgoogle} and yes AdSense will now display in your content page as what you have specified in its parameters. On the other hand, I’m customizing this template I used. I’d like to change mostly the font styles. And it takes me more than an hour to cutomize the style sheets. I observed some have duplicate entries. Just like this line: #selector { style.. width/* */:auto; width:auto; }
